Dr. Vejas Liulevicius to speak as part of Academic Speakers Program

MARTIN, Tenn. – Dr. Vejas Liulevicius, professor in the humanities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and director of the Center for the Study of War and Society, will present a seminar titled “World War I Remembered: The Work of UTK’s Center for the Study of War and Society” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, in Watkins Auditorium, located in the Boling University Center.

Liulevicius, a native of Chicago, Illinois, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago. He later received his doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Liulevicius served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace at Stanford University.

His awards and honors include the University of Tennessee’s Excellence in Teaching award and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship. Liulevicius has published numerous articles and two books: “War Land on the Eastern Front: Culture, National Identity, and German Occupation in World War I” and “The German Myth of the East, 1800 to the Present.” He has also recorded seven taped lecture courses with The Great Courses company on topics including the First World War, dictatorships, espionage, exploration and the history of Eastern Europe.

This presentation is part of UT Martin’s Academic Speakers Program, which annually features top speakers who meet with the university’s Honors Programs students and offer presentations to the public.
